The EU – EGF Transition –
Our Ministries Quality &
Sustainability
The EU-EGF transition report is the true “litmus test” for our ministry’s quality and sustainability.
The burden for student ministry is a niche within a niche. Either one has the calling, or one doesn’t. UESI, a ministry without glamour or celebrity status, has a quiet, enduring impact year after year, regardless of visible results.
Many students view their involvement with UESI as temporary, not a long-term calling — based on two key aspects.
1. The vision of UESI is not conveyed clearly. I have personally known individuals who have been actively involved in the ministry for over a decade, and yet were unsure of UESI’s core focus! Our Bible studies and retreats are impactful but often disconnected from the ministry’s vision.
2. The leadership crisis. The “fill-the-gap” leadership seen in several EU-EGFs often functions only as a short-term stopgap. While it keeps the ministry running on emergency fuel, it does not sustain it in the long run. There is a major lack of mentorship and guidance. If only a handful of graduates are passionate about the ministry, it will likely result in fewer students transitioning into graduates in the future.
Another setback to this transition is when several active and promising students across EUs are involuntarily made to feel that their “job is now over”, when they are in their final year, or once they graduate. The focus is shifted to a new batch of students, creating a leadership vacuum.
