‘Therefore, if anyone is in the Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.’ 2 Corinthians 5:17.

The dawning of 2019, like any other New Year morning, must have stimulated special feelings in our hearts. For many of us, New Year is new hope, a new beginning, fresh anticipation, new excitement, and new resolutions. Sometimes these feelings are tempered by what has occurred in the preceding years, there may be worries about what will be faced in the coming year and there may be a dread of the unknown and uncertain. Whatever may be the case, by and large, we focus on the end of one year as it turns the page to a new year.

But as believers, we must always be critically aware of the fact that in Christ we are a New Creation. This is much more profound than hanging a new calendar on our wall. The ‘old things have passed away’ and ‘all things have become new’. UESI is the fellowship of these newly created beings who are transformed by the blood of Jesus. St. Paul very clearly links new creation with the new standing of us who are in Christ Jesus. First Adam was the head of old creation but the last Adam is head of new creation vindicated by the resurrection of Christ. This new standing is not subject to our feeling or thinking but linked to the fact of what we have become.

As we enter into the New Year 2019, let all of us be motivated by this fact in our lives. First, since we are new, let us walk in the newness of life completely surrendering ourselves unto His LORDSHIP; second, let us not allow worldly values, practices, behavior, human feelings influence our new nature in any manner anymore; third, let us grow continuously in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and fourth, let us walk in a manner that our new nature influences our friends and families, our society, our nation, and the whole world. This is not an easy thing, for the current of the world is against us and flesh is still in us. But ‘He is able to ‘both to save and to keep’ (Heb. 7.25; Jude 24).

In Zechariah 10:12: God says, ‘I will strengthen them in the Lord, and they shall walk up and down in His name’. In the New Year let us pray that every ICEU, EU, and EGF cell may be thoroughly convinced about the fact that we are a new creation in Christ, we have surrendered ourselves under the Lordship of Christ; let not we, but Christ must be magnified and glorified through our lives and ministry. God will surely do marvelous things through UESI if we truly appreciate and persevere in our new nature. May the Spirit of the Lord guide and lead us.
