The uniqueness of this year’s conference was that there were translators to interpret the messages and sessions from English to Bengali and vice versa.
The inaugural session was taken up by Brother Tejdor Tiewsoh, Speaker and Trainer with RZIM Life Focus Society. Rev Peter Jamir, Pastor, Carey Baptist Church, Kolkata, challenged us from the life and legacy of William Carey. Bro. Joseph John led devotions on the topic ‘The Leader’, from Philippians 2:5-11, I Peter 5:2, 3, and from examples in the Bible who served heathen kings. He spoke about the three portraits of leadership in the Bible- Servants, Stewards and Shepherds, the essential qualities of a leader such as being rooted in God’s word, prayer life, faithfulness, availability, teachability, love for God and those whom we lead etc. Bro. Tejdor talked about ‘Habits of a leader-Christian leadership in contemporary culture’ from the books of Esther and Ruth.
We were also blessed to have Bro. Lasar Banerjee, Mission Secretary from Bible Students Fellowship of Bangladesh(BSFB), the counterpart of UESI in Bangladesh. He opened our eyes to the ministry in Bangladesh. He shared about the various challenges and encouraged us to pray for the ministry in Bangladesh.
There was also a question and answer round where Bro. Tejdor and Bro. Joseph John addressed various questions from the students about the Christian faith and on how to share the gospel worship was led by Bro. Mohan Suresh, Staff Worker, It was a refreshing time of once again being reminded of God’s forgiveness and also confessing our sins before God.
From the book of Acts 6:1-7, Bro. Tejdor exhorted to us about the secrets of a fruitful ministry.
Bro Philip, State staff-in-charge, presented a Power Point report on UESI ministry in West Bengal. We prayed for growth in the ministry, and for a burden to reach out to our Bengali friends. A PowerPoint presentation on the ministry details in West Bengal was also released. Mrs. Sasi Jebaraj dedicated it to the Lord
All the participants were encouraged and challenged to portray servant leadership and to keep praying for the UESI ministry in West Bengal.
