The Resurrection Power

Dear brothers and sisters:
Greetings in our risen Lord’s name!

Just last month we celebrated Resurrection Sunday aka Easter Sunday. Usually, the next day of Easter Sunday is ‘Business as usual’ for all of us. We get back to our work and life goes on without much thought that one of the greatest events in history of mankind was remembered. What a contrast to what happened in the early church? The days that followed were more robust in the lives of the disciples.

Early church filled with the Holy Spirit, could not contain their joy and excitement about the resurrection as though there was some power behind all that they did. As a matter of fact, it was indeed power that was in them (Acts 1:8a But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you). The power was so powerful that it brought 360 degrees transformation in the lives of the early church.

A lot happened and one of the transformations that happened was they immediately realized they are no longer owners but Stewards. What became magnified was others’ need! What diminished was the thought that they owned everthing! All this without a pulpit message on giving or a letter of appeal, announcing deficit.

They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need– Acts 2:45

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need- Acts 4:32-35

This is the progression of how the transformation took place. The resurrection power opened their eyes to the need so they voluntarily gave up their ownership and shared everything and gave to anyone in need.

When God’s Holy Spirit comes in our life and the power of resurrection starts working, one big, revolutionary change takes place in our life – our purse also gets converted. Martin Luther once said that there are three conversions necessary: the conversion of the heart, mind and purse. Of these three the conversion of the purse is the most difficult.

When did you last really feel you don’t own anything? That there is a huge need among believers? You gave according to that need? That was the day when you truly enjoyed the resurrection power in your life. Let’s hope we more often enjoy that resurrection power!

  • After a huge surge of inflow in March, its but natural to see a dip in April and hence a shortfall of 18 lakhs. Let’s hope this reverses next month
  • Next to Staff Salaries we have an additional substantially big expense of Staff Conference which is taking place after 3 years. Please pray for the conference
  • Unless we see a good flow of funds, we may see around 60 lakhs shortfall by May end.
  • Don’t forget to fast and pray every 4th Friday of the month – God will provide.

Yours in Him,
