Are you sure your Giving is a Ministry?

Dear UESI family
Greetings in the name of our precious Lord who set an example in Giving . . .

It could be hard to find a Christian who does not give and still harder to find a EU/EGF member who does not give! Do you agree? Giving runs in a Christian’s blood and many is UESI even give sacrificially. However, the best part of Giving is when it truly becomes a ministry and that does mean, at times our Giving may not become a ministry, however much you give. How? Let me explain.

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 9:1, 12 and 13 that the church at Corinth are doing a ministry or service to the church at Jerusalem by Giving. In verse 12 he writes, “For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God” NASB

What is ministry? “Ministry” is from the Greek word diakoneo, meaning “to serve”. When you serve in ministry you meet people’s needs with love and humility ( For example, if someone falls sick and is alone and needs help, when you go to their home and provide help, you have done a ministry. Similarly, when a brother of sister is hospitalised and they have a huge hospital bill and cannot afford. You reach there on time and Give and settle the bills, you have done a ministry by meeting that need.

I am sure we all give to many including UESI. But have you ever wondered if all your Giving has translated into ministry? In other words, everywhere you gave was there a need and the money was used fully for the benefit of those in that ministry at the earliest? Or your money went into the bank where it is earning interest or has become an investment? If your money has become an investment in my opinion it is not a ministry – it is serving no one currently. One might argue saying it will be used in the future for a good purpose. Maybe, but do you mean all idle money in all Christian organizations will be used for a good purpose soon? How can one sit on idle cash for long when others in Christian ministry serving the same Lord, don’t even have funds to function normally?

Thankfully, UESI was able to meet all needs last March but I know of a Christian organization who is making a huge impact in society through the gospel and love of Christ, where you will hear heart wrenching stories of pain, sorrow and redemption. Yet this organization was not able to pay two months salaries to staff during last March, while I know of Christian organizations investing funds. Is this fair?

Macedonian churches gave sacrificially but what if they had kept that same money for future use and not sent to the church at Jerusalem, would that have ever become a ministry? Absolutely not! As a matter of fact, we would have been deprived of one of the most sacrificial stories on Giving in scripture.

Do you want your Giving to become ministry and reach its full potential, then let us give a thought before we issue cheques or transfer money? Let the Lord give us wisdom to know where and how much to Give. Let us Give where there is need and where our money will be instantly used for God’s glory and extension of his Kingdom. Trust me every time you Give to UESI it’s a ministry and God is pleased. . .
Are you sure your Giving is ministry?

Yours in Him,
